It appears that Dennis Hastert will not be seeking re-election for a return to his seat in Congress after 22 years.
But as a nice send-off, let’s talk about some of the things he accomplished, both as a Congressman and as Speaker of the House.
- Objected to the usage of federal money to rebuild the black poorer neighborhoods of Katrina-ravaged New Orleans (”It looks like a lot of that place could be bulldozed”).
- Encouraged the rubber-stamping of two un-declared wars against Iraq and Afghanistan.
- Publicly accused George Soros of making his money through illegal drugs.
- Took over $100,000 in donations from Jack “I Wear a Creepy Black Hat” Abramoff in 2003.
- Totally ignored the pedophile in his midst, Mark Foley. For some reason, chats about cybersex with young boys just never stayed in his memory.
- Rumor has it that John Goodman’s character in The West Wing was based on Hastert.
Well. What a bastard. Bye, Dennis. You won’t be missed.
P.S.,
I love John Goodman.
